Councilman Hugo Soto-Martínez

Councilman Hugo Soto-Martínez has been characterized for being very sensitive to the issues of the community. From the fight for decent housing, in defense of renters, to services for the homeless, this councilman has always been vigilant about how to convey his message.

That’s why starting from February 1, his office will go ‘live’ on Instagram and Facebook entirely in Spanish so that residents of District 13 in Los Angeles can find the information they need in their preferred language.

“According to our data, a little over 60 percent of the residents in the district are Latinos, with a large majority communicating in Spanish. That’s why we want to offer them information in their language, but also information that is useful and leads to action,” says Andoni Elías Nava, from the councilman’s communication team.

The information that is published will be produced exclusively for the Spanish-speaking community, although there may be some that can be translated from English.

“This is something the councilman has wanted for a while, but the conditions weren’t right; now we have the resources to do it,” adds Nava.

According to preliminary estimates, Councilman Hugo Soto-Martínez office is the first office of Los Angeles council members to have social media channels entirely in Spanish.

“This is something the councilman has wanted for a while, but the conditions weren’t right; now we have the resources to do it,” adds Andoni Elías Nava.

“There are many things happening in the district that we need to inform about, things that impact this community. An example is the issue of rents, another is the efforts being made with street vendors on Hollywood Boulevard,” he adds.

His channels focus on four points: providing information about what’s happening in the community, events, festivals, artistic programs; available resources for residents; profiles, history of the cities in the district, and various opportunities, such as volunteering.

“It’s an initial effort that will grow, but the councilman’s goal is to get even closer to the residents of his district,” he says.

On February 1, these channels can be found live at the following addresses:
