The office of Councilwoman Heather Hutt is excited to announce that our district recently received a Nine Million dollars ($9,000,000.00) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Discretionary Grant Program for South LA projects.
Recently Councilwoman Hutt sent a letter to Secretary Pete Buttigeg urging the administration to consider funding the “La Brea Avenue Complete Streets” project. Identified as a High-Injury Network, by the City of Los Angeles; the corridor has been deemed one of the highest areas for severe and fatal crashes. The project area currently poses numerous safety and mobility issues including pedestrian safety, and wheelchair (ADA) accessibility. The safety issues are derived from years of underinvestment in the corridor.
This new funding will be allocated towards a project located along La Brea Avenue between Coliseum Street and Adams Boulevard. The project will provide improvements to these safety and mobility issues for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles who travel through the corridor.
“Our office is committed to creating streets and neighborhoods that are safe with improved options for mobility and access to transit. I am grateful to Secretary Buttigeg for the $9M grant to assist with much needed La Brea upgrades,” said Councilwoman Hutt.
