Coppelia’s Bakery & Restaurant in Culver City, California has been family-owned and operated since 1986: 

  • History

    Ana Asnaran, a Cuban immigrant, opened the bakery as “New Yorker Bakery”. She was trained by her baker mother and offers a fusion of Cuban-Caribbean and Peruvian pastries. 

  • Known for

    Coppelia’s is known for its tres leches cakes and flans. Their signature mango tres leches is considered exceptional. They also offer a “quatro leches” option, which uses four types of dairy. 

  • Other offerings

    Coppelia’s also offers custom cakes for special occasions, as well as fruit tarts. 

  • Hours

    Coppelia’s is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 AM to 4 PM, and by appointment only on Mondays. 

Coppelia may also refer to the state-run ice cream brand in Cuba: 

  • History

    Fidel Castro, a fan of ice cream, wanted to create a Cuban ice cream brand that would surpass foreign varieties. The Communist government built an ice cream factory and one of the world’s largest ice cream parlors, named it Coppelia after Castro’s favorite ballet. 

  • Features

    The Havana Coppelia is located in the Vedado district and is a mid-century marvel made of colored glass in steel. It has two floors of table seating and counters spread throughout the complex.

    Coppelia is a part of Cuban history and is a place where people from all walks of life can enjoy a treat together.
