In recent weeks, three people said their newly ordered MacBook Pros were stolen. A man with fake IDs intercepted the packages from delivery truck drivers as he stood in front of the residents’ homes. The residents opened their front doors right after the man picked up the packages from the delivery driver and drove off.

Irvine police are in contact with the other agencies where the thefts were reported, including Glendale, Irvine police spokesperson Kyle Oldoerp said.

Although the methods differed, he said, the package contents were the same.

“It’s all MacBook Pros,” Oldoerp said. “The million dollar question is, how are these suspects getting specific information about a specific product?”

The authorities ask county residents to take more security measures.

Here, some tips:

Opt for tracking so you can follow your parcel from the depot to its destination and provide clear instructions so couriers can deliver your parcel safely.

Make sure you or someone you trust is home to sign for the package or have a secure location within your property where it can be hidden.

Clear your mailbox in a timely manner and put a hold on mail delivery if you’re going away.

Consider CCTV or security cameras and keep an eye out for anyone suspicious hanging around your property.
