Los Angeles Dental Society to bring free annual dental education program to community
Clínica Romero’s Marengo Street branch in Los Angeles will be full of smiles this Saturday, Feb. 22, when Los Angeles Dental Society brings its annual “Let Your Kids Smile Day.”
Sponsored in part Colgate and the American Dental Association, the free event is part of National Children’s Dental Health Month. This is the fourth annual event, but the first time it’s held at Clínica Romero, which offers basic dental care services to children and adults.
“We are going to educate families and their children about how to brush their teeth,” said Gregg Orloff, Executive Director of nonprofit agency Los Angeles Dental Society.
Orloff added they also seek to instill the importance of early dental care.
“Our goal is for the children to have proper dental care, and to remove the fear of dentistry,” he noted.
Attendees will receive proper training on how to take care of their teeth. They will also receive toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and other gifts.
The event also has the purpose of introducing families about the dental care services available at Clínica Romero, a partner of the Society for the past five years.
At Clínica Romero, patients young and old will get basic dental work and oral health including cleanings, oral exams and X-rays, oral hygiene education, fluoride varnish applicataions, scaling and root planning, simple extractions, restoration fillings and canal treatment limited to anterior teeth. If someone needs more advanced work, they provide referrals to specialists.
Those specialists, as well as dentists who work at Clínica Romero are all part of Los Angeles Dental Society.
Once a person becomes a dentist, they must join the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association and their local dental society. California has 32 of those local dental societies, including five in Los Angeles County.
Los Angeles Dental Society, which covers members from Beverly Hills east through Hollywood all the way to East Los Angeles and all the way to South Los Angeles, provides information and required continuing education courses and webinars to their members. Through their foundation, they also offer financial support and assistance to different community organizations.
Clínica Romero is one of those entities.
“We make donations through our foundation to Clínica Romero; we recommend patients there as well,” said Orloff, who noted that the professionalism and community assistance the Clínica offers puts them “at the top of the places I always recommend” for dental care.
“I’ve never had a (patient) complain about the clinic,” he said.
“They are very professional, and having seen the facilities, they’re very helpful and the quality of care is excellent,” Orloff noted.
At the end, he added, it’s all about service and letting the community know about the importance of seeing a dentist often, which aligns with the Society’s goals.
“We want to make people aware of the need to see a dentist,” Orloff said. “Dental share should start early.
“A lot of people don’t take their kids to the dentist. But prevention is better than maintenance and repair, so, start early,” he recommends.
