Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez has been a fighter for the community, and now he tells Parrriva that it is time to keep fighting.

“Los Angeles is a city that welcomes the immigrant community,” we will legislate to protect them.

Hugo is a social fighter; he has been fighting for the civil rights of workers for many years.

“I am angry about what is happening, we have to keep fighting in Los Angeles, establish policies that benefit the community.”

Coming from a union background, he worked many years as a community organizer and was part of the team that moved to Arizona to defeat the anti-immigrant sheriff Joe Arpaio.
“Those experiences have taught me how to use power. You can benefit communities. That’s the position I find myself in,” he says.
Now is another battle.

“People are scared. Our role as elected officials is to provide policies, initiatives.”

Along with other councilmembers, Hugo Soto-Martínez is making changes and protecting the immigrant community.

“There is fear, but we are here to stand with our community,” he says, and it’s true.
