Investigation begins into audio recording involving LA officials

Los Angeles police have launched a criminal investigation into recording that captured racist remarks.
According to agency officials, the four involved: Nury Martínez, the former president of the City Council, councilors Kevin de Leon and Gil Cedillo, and the now former president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Workers, Ron Herrera They requested this investigation.
LAPD Police Chief Michel Moore said that all four people captured on the leaked audio had approached the department on Friday to request an investigation. They told the department that they had been “unlawfully and surreptitiously recorded,” he added.
He said there was no suspect in the case so far.
“At this point, the investigation is wide open,” Chief Moore said. “Obviously this is a sensitive matter, and one that we will pursue. And the investigation will take us where it takes us.
This investigation opens a new stage in the scandal caused by an earthquake at a local and national level.
Martínez and Herrera resigned from their positions as soon as the case became public. Cedillo and De Leon have refused to do so, raising a wave of outrage from the Los Angeles community.
