Amid growing global criticism of the illegal, inhumane, and cruel actions against Venezuelan migrants in the US, a 2012 video has resurfaced and gone viral. In the video, journalist Jorge Ramos exposed Marco Rubio’s hypocrisy regarding migrants.
“It seems like hypocrisy,” the journalist told him, referring to Rubio’s stance, who has aligned his discourse with the more conservative wing of the Republican Party, prioritizing border security over the protection of undocumented immigrants.
In the interview, Ramos questioned Rubio’s lack of support for undocumented immigrants, despite the fact that his own grandfather had faced a deportation order. It is important to note that Marco Rubio’s parents and grandparents are Cuban immigrants in the US.
During the conversation, the journalist pressed Rubio about his stance on immigration and confronted him with his family’s history.
“But, for example, your grandfather, Pedro VÃctor GarcÃa, received a deportation order in 1962… Why did your grandfather receive the support and generosity of this country? And why don’t you do exactly the same?” Ramos asked.
The questioning unnerved Rubio, who tried to justify his grandfather’s case by arguing that it was a “different” situation. However, Ramos insisted that his position seemed contradictory.
Marco Rubio, a declared enemy of Venezuela, has repeatedly attacked immigrants in the US, stigmatizing them and referring to them in terms unacceptable to the world.
In his most recent statements, Rubio announced the sending of 17 migrants to El Salvador, whom he accused of being criminal gang members. The operation was carried out on Sunday night, despite the judicial blockages that have followed previous deportations and kidnappings of Venezuelans to the Central American country without a court order.
