From funding to pitching to self-esteem, these books address some of the most common roadblocks facing Latina entrepreneurs today and lend readers a first-hand glimpse into the Latina entrepreneurial experience.

1. My (Underground) American Dream: My True Story as an Undocumented Immigrant Who Became a Wall Street Executive by Julissa Arce

A social justice advocate, social entrepreneur (she co-founded a tech finance firm aimed at increasing wealth in local communities), and former Wall Street executive, Arce has penned three books about her cultural identity and experience in finance. My (Underground) American Dream was her first published work.

The 2013 memoir tells the tale of Arce’s struggle to assimilate into American culture, her efforts to navigate the legal system, and the community that helped her grow into the kind of trailblazer who could land a top Wall Street job.

2. Jefa in Training by Ashley K. Stoyanov Ojeda
A must-read on Eva Longoria’s business reading list, Jefa in Training is a detailed Spanglish “how to” for Latina entrepreneurs looking to take the first steps to success. In her debut book, published in February 2022, Ojeda draws inspiration from the clients she sees at her eponymous consulting firm, Ashley K. Stoyanov LLC, where she specializes in working with small businesses and startups.

3. The Virtuous Circle: Restore Your Confidence, Bounce Back, and Emerge Stronger by Gaby Natale
Natale is a three-time Emmy Award winner, host, and executive producer of the TV program SuperLatina as well as the president and founder of Aganar Media. She is also the first Latina published under the HarperCollins leadership division. Her 2021 book The Virtuous Circle profiles other entrepreneurs such as Carlos Santana and Deepak Chopra and explores the qualities that helped them find success.

4. Self Made: Becoming Empowered, Self-Reliant, and Rich in Every Way by Nely Galán
Self Made is the innovative founder’s wellness guide. The book, originally published in 2016, explains how to jumpstart your startup and find financial independence, featuring anecdotes, financial advice, and leadership lessons from Galán, an Emmy Award-winning producer and media entrepreneur. Galán also includes exercises to help readers identify their goals and strengths.

5. Uncolonized Latinas: Transforming Our Mindsets and Rising Together by Valeria Aloe
In her 2021 book, Aloe draws a mind map for Latina founders, explaining how certain ingrained mindsets can create mental barriers and hamper Latina leaders. Uncolonized Latinas, which is also available in Spanish, features success stories from Latina immigrants and founders. Aloe herself is an entrepreneurship coach and the founder of Abundancia Consciente, a bilingual training, consulting, and coaching platform designed to support Latino professionals and business owners and inspire them to excel beyond cultural and societal limitations.
