U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem revealed in an exclusive interview with Fox News that, during her visit to Mexico, she held a meeting with Claudia Sheinbaum in which they discussed actions to strengthen bilateral cooperation on security and combating drug cartels.
During the meeting, Noem proposed a series of measures to Sheinbaum focused on strengthening the southern border with Guatemala, increasing information exchange with U.S. authorities, and sharing biometric data and criminal records.
Noem described the meeting as productive and explained that Sheinbaum showed a willingness to continue the dialogue on security issues.
In addition, the secretary indicated that she will submit a report to President Trump on the progress made, highlighting the importance of moving from dialogue to the implementation of concrete actions.
Noem emphasized the need for Mexico to increase its presence and control along the border with Guatemala, with the goal of stemming the flow of migrants and criminal activity associated with organized crime.
She also proposed improvements in the scanning of air cargo shipments arriving in the United States and greater information sharing in criminal investigations.
