Luis R. Conriquez Kicked Out of Texcoco Palenque for Refusing to Sing Corridos

Mexican singer Luis R. Conriquez fled the Palenque in Texcoco after being pelted with beer by angry fans for not performing any corridos. The chaos escalated as audience members stormed the stage and smashed his instruments.

The incident occurred Friday, April 11, during the 2025 Texcoco Horse Fair. Despite beginning his performance to applause, the mood quickly turned sour when Conriquez failed to play a single corrido—a regional Mexican genre central to his fame.

Fans chanted “¡Corridos, corridos!” halfway through the show, visibly upset. Conriquez paused to clarify:

“This is the first time I’m doing a palenque show without corridos, so either we adapt and party or… I’m going home. Let’s get romantic instead… actually, I’m out.”

As beer and objects rained down, the artist exited the stage. Staff members tried to contain the situation, but fans pushed past them, seizing and destroying musical equipment. Conriquez and his team fled the scene without packing up.

Neither Conriquez nor the Texcoco Horse Fair organizers have issued a statement, but multiple videos of the riot have gone viral on social media.

In recent months, corridos—especially narcocorridos, which glorify criminal figures—have become the focus of public debate and government action. While not banned in Mexico, the controversy led to cultural campaigns like México Canta, launched by President Claudia Sheinbaum to discourage youth from embracing crime-related lyrics.

In response, Conriquez announced his decision to permanently drop corridos from his shows:

“We’re entering a new era, my people. No more corridos. It hurts not to sing what fans want, but we’re joining the zero-corrido cause. Some folks think we’re making the rules, but this is real—no more corridos at any future events, no matter the artist.”
