The United States revoked the work and tourist visas of the members of Los Alegres del Barranco on Monday after images of their concert last Saturday at the Telmex Auditorium in Guadalajara went viral. Authorities confirmed the information to the newspaper El Universal, which indicates that the cancellation affects the band’s four musicians: Armando Moreno Álvarez, José Pavel Moreno Serrano, José Carlos Moreno Álvarez, and Cristóbal Reyes López.

The images have sparked controversy across the country. They include photographs of Nemesio Oseguera, known as El Mencho, leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), and Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán, former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel. In the background, some of the group’s narcocorridos play, such as “El del palenque”: “I am the owner of the palenque, four letters in front, I am from the very Michoacán, where Tierra Caliente is, I am the lord of the roosters, the one from the Jalisco cartel.”

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum echoed what happened during Monday’s morning press conference. “It shouldn’t happen, imagine, it’s not right, that an investigation should be carried out, it’s not correct,” she stated.

The controversy comes at a sensitive time for the country, shaken by the discovery of a CJNG training camp in Teuchitlán, just an hour from the venue where the concert was held. Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus also spoke out during the day, asserting that he is working to “combat” demonstrations of this type. “We all have to do our part to stop normalizing violence. It shouldn’t happen in this or any other part of our state,” he stated.

Los Alegres del Barranco began their career in 2005 in the city of Culiacán. Like many regional music groups, they performed their first shows at events and private parties, while some of their songs, such as “El Panal,” began to gain notoriety on social media. Some of their most-played songs are narcocorridos dedicated to Mexico’s biggest drug lords: “El 701” (a number that refers to the number achieved by El Chapo in Forbes magazine), “El Encierro de Joaquín,” and “El Costal Lleno de Piedras.”
