Trump revokes Petro’s US visa: ‘I’ve already seen Donald Duck, I’m going to see other things,’ he responds
“I can’t go anymore because I think they revoked my visa. I didn’t need a visa, but oh well. I’ve already seen Donald Duck (referring to Trump) several times, so I’m going to see other things,” Petro said this Monday, April 21, during a cabinet meeting held at the Casa de Nariño, the headquarters of the Executive Branch.
Petro made the reference to the visa when commenting that Finance Minister Germán Ávila traveled to Washington to participate this week in the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).
The president did not provide details about the reasons why the United States allegedly revoked his visa, but before commenting on the situation, he mentioned a recent decision by the Supreme Court of Justice of that country, apparently related to the immigration issue.
“I have to thank a court of justice that belongs to the United States, its Supreme Court, which stood up for humanity, for democracy, and for the foundations of the Republic against the legal theories of Hitler and Mussolini,” he said.
Petro’s comment apparently referred to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision last Saturday to halt the expulsion of Venezuelans until further notice, in response to emergency appeals filed by an organization alleging that President Donald Trump’s administration is trying to expel more migrants to El Salvador.
“Here we have to prepare for things,” added Petro, who has had several disagreements with the Trump administration over the immigration issue.
