Bookstore To Reflect The Multicultural Community

Written by Parriva — December 6, 2024

Twenty years ago, two young Latina educators opened a bookstore to reflect the multicultural community of Southern California that was not captured in the educational system that they were brought up in.

The focus of the bookstore reflected their experiences as women of color, first generation college grads, and immigrant advocates. This was the dream, this was the service they to brought to their community: a bookstore that celebrated the stories and traditions from people of color.

These dreamers, Adelaida Bautista and Patricia DeRobles, plus a core group of supporters have brought Cafe con Libros Press back to downtown Pomona. The new CCL is a non-profit organization focused on Arts, Literature and Culture.

Book lending:

Our goal is to see every patron of Café con Libros Press leave with something to read. We invite the community to visit our Lending Library and strive to offer a variety of reading materials for every interest and every age, at no cost and no fees.

Simply explore our shelves and choose a book to take home. On the way out, let us know which book or books you’re taking home and return it when you’re done, no due dates. If you think you want to keep the book permanently, give us a small donation.

Our Lending Library is made possible by generous donations from our community.

Book Donations

In order to maintain an ever engaging selection of books, we rotate books out after 4 months unless we added them to our “classics” section or our own in-house library of “must haves”.

Below is the calendar of our monthly book drives that target books that have been highly requested by our community.

What Happens to Donated Books?

After we process the donated books, most will end up in our Lending Library.

A small amount of donated pristine books are placed in our selection of books for sale at a greatly reduced price and help to supplement our costs, fund events, or buy materials such as art supplies for our Cuentitos y Crafts (children’s story hour and craft).
