Congregational Network Shelter Program

The Family Promise of San Gabriel Valley congregational network’s shelter program is an innovative and cost-effective approach to addressing family homelessness. Their program is comprised of 13 faith-based locations that house families one week at a time. Families are housed in different locations week after week until they can find permanent housing.

Family Proise also offers a day center where families receive intensive case management on a weekly basis to assess and address their needs and connect them to comprehensive services through our network of community partners. These services range from workforce development, medical care, child care, mental health, and academic resources.

Homeless Prevention Initiative

Family Promise SGV offers prevention and moving assistance (including utilities) for families with young children who meet the program’s eligibility criteria. They work in collaboration with the community, partners, local agencies, and schools to identify families who may be able to receive help through rental assistance or eviction assistance. More details and eligibility criteria can be found below.

If you are a family seeking prevention or moving assistance and meet the criteria listed below, please submit a self-referral  HERE .

If you are a school counselor, case manager, or other community partner who would like to learn more about working collaboratively with FPSGV to serve families through our Prevention program, please email  director@familypromisesgv.org .

Preventive Assistance

  • One-time prevention assistance for households who are behind on their rent/mortgage and at risk of eviction and subsequent homelessness, up to $2000 (please note: the landlord must be willing to allow the household to remain in the current residence for at least 30 days to receive eviction prevention assistance)
  • Move-in assistance in the form of first month’s rent and/or security deposit, up to $2,000, for eligible homeless families who have identified an eligible unit;
  • Utility assistance to avoid utility shut-offs or deposits to activate utilities during move (included in $2000 limit).

* FPSGV’s move prevention and assistance services are provided with the intent to ensure that families are able to maintain and/or acquire permanent, stable housing.

Record numbers of homeless people in the US. Can cities fine them for sleeping in parks and on sidewalks?

Due to the high cost of housing and inflation, many Los Angeles residents fear becoming homeless, which makes them feel pessimistic.
