Transform Momelessness

Mental illness, substance abuse, unemployment, low-income, a high cost of living, a sudden expense or loss of income and lack of family support can all contribute to homelessness. At programs in Long Beach, Covina and Los Angeles, Catholic Charities tackles the root causes of homelessness to transform the lives of men, women and children. Through our emergency shelter and bridge and crisis housing programs, homeless individuals are offered a safe haven and the tools needed to lead self-sufficient lives. By way of our homeless prevention programs, which typically include case management and financial assistance, at-risk individuals and families are able to regain stability in their current housing. And through  counseling, education, job training and support, those who were once homeless prepare for independent futures.

A Transsitional Shelter for Mothers and Children Impacted by Domestic Violence

Good Shepherd Shelter is a long-term treatment and education-based shelter for women and their children who are healing from domestic violence. The program was founded by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in 1977 and came into the Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc.’s (CCLA) “family” on October 1, 2019.  They are the pioneers and experts in providing services for women and children experiencing domestic violence. The whole family is our focus and priority.

Assist Immigrants and Refugees

Catholic Charities began providing immigration assistance during World War II, when refugees sought safety on American shores. Today, most clients seeking immigration services are coming from Afghanistan, Central America, Iran, Iraq, Mexico and Syria.

Our attorneys and immigration specialists offer help for immigrants, refugees and asylees who are in need of free and low-cost legal and social services.
