Tired of their kids walking past a sprawling homeless encampment where they say their kids are exposed to half-naked people bathing or doing drugs, parents at Virgil Middle School and Citizens of the World Charter School in Koreatown have asked the Los Angeles Council to ban homelessness encapments within 500 feet of schools and day care centers.

City law would prohibit sitting, lying down, sleeping, or storing personal items within 500 feet of schools.

If you want to support this idea, add your name to this petition. homeless encampments have become a huge problemin many communities as the number of homeless people grows. the latest count found 66,400 homeless in Los Angeles County; 41,200 in the city of Los Angeles.

The high price of housing is undoubtedly one of the highest challenges in the region. The average
rental cost of a one-bedroom apartment in Los Angeles reached $2,661, a figure that many cannot
afford. In fact, many tenants who have been unable to pay their rent are threatened with eviction at
the end of June. The state agency in charge of an assistance program for renters said it will only be able to
cover rent until last March, when the deadline for applications expired. The program has faced
long delays and currently more than 208,000 people are still waiting for a response to their
requests.
