Keeping the “studio” in Studio City

City Council President Paul Krekorian and Mayor Karen Bass celebrated the signing of an agreement between the owners of Radford Studio Center and the County’s construction unions to expand and renovate the film and TV production facility.

Founded by Hollywood pioneer Mack Sennett in 1928, the studio was purchased by CBS Television in the 1960s. From silent comedies to John Wayne westerns to The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Seinfeld, it has been home to some of the most memorable productions in American entertainment history.

At nearly 100 years old, the studio must be modernized to meet the demands of an evolving entertainment industry. Now Studio Center is getting a $1 billion makeover.

This project will provide:

3,548 new direct jobs during construction

8,070 new direct jobs when operational

And will contribute:

$2.37 billion in total economic output during construction

$5.5 billion total annual economic output once operational

“This is the studio that gave Studio City its name,” said City Council President Krekorian. I’m thrilled to see it thriving and growing, creating good-paying union jobs for Angelenos and entertainment for the world.”
