Ana Asnaran, a Cuban immigrant, opened the bakery as “New Yorker Bakery”. She was trained by her baker mother and offers a fusion of Cuban-Caribbean and Peruvian pastries.Â

Coppelia’s is known for its tres leches cakes and flans. Their signature mango tres leches is considered exceptional. They also offer a “quatro leches” option, which uses four types of dairy.Â

History
Fidel Castro, a fan of ice cream, wanted to create a Cuban ice cream brand that would surpass foreign varieties. The Communist government built an ice cream factory and one of the world’s largest ice cream parlors, named it Coppelia after Castro’s favorite ballet.Â
