Newly elected officials explore cross-border opportunities to enhance regional growth.

Newly elected officials from Southern California cities visited Tijuana and Ensenada with the goal of strengthening the binational relationship in political, economic, tourism, and cultural matters.

The visit was made possible through the leadership of Carlos González Gutiérrez, Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, in coordination with the Tijuana City Council, Cotuco (Tijuana Tourism and Conventions Committee), and the International Affairs Office of Ensenada.

This first trip included Latino mayors and councilmembers—mostly of Mexican descent—from 10 cities across Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Riverside counties.

During their visit, the group toured Avenida Revolución and tasted the famous Caesar’s Salad at the iconic Caesar’s restaurant.

Dr. Karim Chalita Rodríguez, president of Cotuco, thanked the Consul for his support in promoting Tijuana and expressed enthusiasm for collaborating with U.S. officials. He emphasized the importance of joining efforts to boost binational tourism and pledged to continue strengthening ties with U.S. consulates.

Pedro Montejo Peterson, Tijuana’s Secretary of Economic Development, highlighted the strategic value of the Cali-Baja region and stressed the need for ongoing communication and collaboration.

Consul Carlos González praised Tijuana’s willingness to work jointly with U.S. officials and noted that the visiting delegation has direct ties to the Mexican migrant community in California.

The delegation also toured the Cross Border Express (CBX)—a unique infrastructure linking Mexico and the U.S. that enhances tourist mobility.

They visited the New City Medical Plaza, a top-tier healthcare facility in Latin America recognized by national tourism authorities.

The trip concluded with a stroll along Avenida Revolución and a taste of the original Caesar’s Salad, before the group continued on to Ensenada.
