Stray dog caught on camera fleeing to San Diego through open border fence with 10 migrants returns to Mexico town Tijuana

A stray puppy’s American dream is over after his Mexican border town caretakers asked U.S. Border Patrol agents for help bringing him back.

Known among locals in Tijuana as ‘Oso,’ the pooch made headlines Tuesday when he was seen running with 10 migrants across the United States-Mexico border where construction workers were replacing a section of the steel barrier.

The video showed seven migrants fleeing through a temporary chain-linked fence that had fallen down, before an eighth migrant joined in as Oso trailed behind. Moments later, two other migrants could be seen following the group before they all turned themselves over to border agents in Imperial Beach in San Diego County.

A border merchant, who is among the many locals who look after the abandoned dog, later approached agents near the border structure and asked if they could help him find Oso.

The border officers located Oso and ‘deported’ him Wednesday.

Paola, a woman who runs her own small business at Tijuana Beach, told TV Azteca Baja California the dog is about six months old and was abandoned on the beach shortly after he was born.

Oso has quite a culinary taste, and dislikes dog croquettes – preferring chowing down on shrimps instead.

She recalled that he was doing fine until he noticed the migrants rushing through the open border area in hopes of getting asylum from the U.S. government.

‘A bunch of people passed and he went after all of them,’ Paola said.
