The whole shebang is centered on the common Finnish philosophy that happiness isn’t some mystical state but rather a skill that can be learned.
Happiness is a hard thing to quantify, but that doesn’t stop us trying! And with the annual World Happiness Report due to drop later this month, the country perhaps best qualified to offer lessons on how to achieve joy is its five-time winner, Finland.
Which is why Finland is doing exactly that – opening up the world’s first masterclass in happiness to “find your inner Finn.” The bad news is that it’s only for ten lucky joy seekers, meaning, ironically, it may make more people unhappy than happy in the long run if they apply and don’t get in! But for the ten chosen, smiles are sure to be wide, as Visit Finland will be hosting the entire thing so it won’t cost participants a single cent. Those who aren’t can console themselves by experiencing the masterclass free online later this summer.
Applications are open to anyone, anywhere until April 2, 2023 for the four-day masterclass, which will be held in the Finnish Lakeland region from June 12-15, 2023 at the luxury Kuru Resort, where each villa comes with its own sauna and spa. Winners will be flown in and connected with expert coaches aiming to guide them towards a balanced way of life that promotes “happiness the Finnish way.” The coaching will cover four key themes: nature and lifestyle; health and balance; design and everyday; food and wellbeing.
The whole shebang is centered on the common Finnish philosophy that happiness isn’t some mystical state but rather a skill that can be learned. And according to the 2022 Oracle Happiness Report, depressingly, it’s a skill many of us have forgotten or never found with 45% of people claiming to have not felt truly happy for more than two years and 25% unsure or unable to remember if they have . Smiles, then, are in short supply and Finland claims to have the answer.
