A bold move to tackle forest management — but is it enough to stop California’s burning crisis?

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently announced that he signed an executive order to inject $171 million into the state. He made the announcement on social media, explaining the reasons behind his decision.

On his X account, the Democratic leader of the Golden State shared a video informing that he had approved a law to allocate a large sum of money to a specific sector of the state that suffered severe consequences due to the wildfires that occurred in January.

This measure adds to the one previously announced months ago, when Newsom referred to the state emergency the region was facing and emphasized his administration’s commitment to fighting the crisis and protecting residents.

The governor revealed that he signed new legislation to “quickly implement millions of dollars in expanded forest and vegetation management throughout California.” This initiative was enacted to prevent delays in future projects related to the safety of residents.

“By reducing the bureaucracy that often delays larger projects, we are working harder than ever to protect Californians from wildfires,” Newsom stated.

In addition to this executive order, the state leader had approved an ordinance to help fire victims repair their homes and businesses more quickly. At that time, the Democratic leader stated that this measure “would help reduce delays in obtaining permits, an important first step to enable communities to recover faster and stronger.”
